The Dordogne

On Friday we arrived at l'Abyme, just about half an hour south of Perigueux. The property is
beautiful and consists of an old manor house, two cottages and a studio apartment.

Our home until the end of April is in one of the cottages. They were originally veal raising houses, but have been renovated to provide holiday accommodation. No guests are booked in until summer so we have the place to ourselves. There are barn owls living in the roof space, which we've heard but not seen yet.

We are helping with a few light gardening jobs like pruning, and laying a few patio slabs around the swimming pool. It's nice to have a bit to do. When the spring comes we'll mow the lawns and paint some shutters, but for now we're Lord and Lady of the Manor and are in charge of two cats and a gold fish! Nothing too taxing! Today I've made bread..... lovely! The owners are very nice people who have made us feel very welcome. We are looking forward to settling in and exploring the region.
